Co-Curricular Engagement

Why This Matters

Learning and development extend beyond formal coursework. The Carnegie Framework recognizes co-curricular engagement as an important contributor to students’ civic identity and sense of responsibility. These experiences include service, leadership, research, and internships. Documenting and assessing co-curricular engagement helps institutions understand how these experiences support student development. It also ensures that opportunities are intentional, accessible, and aligned with broader engagement goals.

Standards for Practice

  • Co-Curricular Opportunities and Experiences
    • Identify and promote co-curricular opportunities.
  • Tracking and Assessment
    • Track co-curricular activities across the institution and unit.
